Favorite Devices

Favorite Devices are the user’s configured audio devices: the amplifiers and music players they want HiFi Control to connect to and manage. The application connects to favorite devices on startup and maintains persistent connections.

Adding Devices

Devices can be added as favorites through:

1. Setup Wizard: During initial setup, discovered devices can be added
2. Settings → Favorite Devices: Manual device management

Device Discovery

When adding a device, HiFi Control scans the local network for compatible devices. Discovered devices show their brand, model, and network address.

Manual Configuration

If a device is not discovered automatically, users can configure it manually by providing the device’s IP address or hostname.

Device Settings

Selecting a favorite device in Settings → Favorite Devices opens a per-device settings panel:

Device Information

• Display Name: Custom name for the device
• Hostname or IP Address: The address used to connect to the device
• MAC Address: Used for Wake-on-LAN and IP-recovery scanning (see Connection Management); can be entered manually or detected automatically from the device with Detect MAC address
• Product Image: An image shown to identify the device, either picked manually (Select Image), cleared (Clear Image), or looked up automatically from the product catalog (Auto Detect)

Amplifier Settings (amplifiers only)

• Volume Step: How many dB a single volume up/down adjustment moves, adjustable via slider down to the device-reported minimum step size (see Volume Control)
• Maximum Volume: An optional dB ceiling that prevents the device from being driven past a configured level; toggled on with Enable maximum volume limit, then set as a dB value

Device Recovery

If a device’s IP address changes (e.g., DHCP reassignment), HiFi Control can:

1. Detect the connection failure
2. Use the stored MAC address to scan the network for the device at its new address
3. Automatically reconnect once found
