Volume Control & Overlay
Volume Control
Section titled “Volume Control”Volume is controlled through the currently selected amplifier. Each amplifier provides:
- Volume Range: Typically -80 dB to 0 dB (device-specific)
- Minimum Step: The smallest volume increment the device supports (e.g., 0.5 dB for BluOS)
- Mute/Unmute: Toggle the amplifier’s mute state
Configurable Volume Steps
Section titled “Configurable Volume Steps”Users can configure custom volume step sizes per device from the device settings, instead of using the device’s default minimum step.
Volume Commands
Section titled “Volume Commands”| Command | Default Hotkey | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Volume Up | Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Up |
Increases amplifier volume by one step |
| Volume Down | Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Down |
Decreases amplifier volume by one step |
| Mute/Unmute | Ctrl+Alt+Shift+. |
Toggles the mute state |
Hotkeys can be customized in Settings → Hotkeys.
Rapid Input and Safety
Section titled “Rapid Input and Safety”Volume changes from the UI, hotkeys, Surface Dial, Stream Deck, and presets pass through one coordinator per device. The first change is sent immediately; while it is in flight, signed relative changes are combined into one latest trailing adjustment. This preserves rapid up/down input without allowing an old command backlog or overlapping device writes.
The configured maximum volume is checked inside the same device boundary and is passed to the plugin for a second check at the actual write. Positive individual requests retain a 2 dB safety cap. Commands expose typed applied, coalesced, clamped, timeout, disconnected, rejected, no-op, and failed outcomes so an unconfirmed device change is not recorded as successful.
Volume Overlay
Section titled “Volume Overlay”When the volume changes, a non-intrusive floating overlay appears at the bottom-center of the primary display. The overlay shows:
- Current Volume: Displayed in dB with a visual progress bar
- Volume Icon: Changes dynamically based on level (muted → low → medium → high)
- Device Information: Brand and model of the active amplifier
- Mute State: Displays “Muted” indicator when applicable
Overlay Behavior
Section titled “Overlay Behavior”- Auto-hide: Disappears after 2 seconds with a fade-out animation
- Non-intrusive: The overlay:
- Never steals focus from other applications (including fullscreen apps)
- Is always on top of other windows
- Is click-through (mouse events pass through to windows underneath)
- Does not appear in the taskbar
- Triggers: Appears on volume changes and when switching between devices
Device Switch Notification
Section titled “Device Switch Notification”When the user switches to a different amplifier or music player, the overlay briefly shows the newly selected device’s type, brand, and model.
